CFI 70: Principal Christine M. Foxen Collier


Ms. Collier proudly serves as principal of the Center for Inquiry at School 70. She entered the field of education in 1977 as a general education elementary teacher and then as a special education inclusion teacher. She is a founding mother of the Center for Inquiry schools and led the design team for IPS's IB high school. During her first principalship, at the Center for Inquiry at School 2, the school became the first IB World School in Indiana to offer the PYP (Primary Years Program) and was recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School. When CFI replicated to School 84, Ms. Collier served as principal of both CFI sites. CFI School 84 received IB World School status and was awarded top elementary magnet school status from Magnet Schools of America.  Her work to support inquiry-based learning and teaching in a global context led to her recognition as Indiana's Principal of the Year and as a National Distinguished Principal. In both 2015-16 and 2016-17, she has been honored as a finalist for the Hubbard Life-Changing Education Award. 
Ms. Collier additionally served as Head of Center for Inquiry Schools when the third site, at School 27 opened. She was asked and served as the head of the design team to begin an IPS IB high school (Gambold Preparatory HS).  She then served at the district level, supporting the CFI schools, Gambold Prep, and the Butler Lab School as director. Ms. Collier returned to serve CFI at School 84 as principal in the 2014-15 school year, and worked closely with students, teachers, parents, and community partners to develop globally-minded learners.Ms. Collier moved to School 70 in 2016-17 to open the fourth CFI school. 
Degrees held include a BA is from Marian College (now Marian University), an MA is from IUPUI, School Administration certification from IUPUI and IU. Ms. Collier, a life-long learner, completed her doctoral coursework in Organizational Leadership and is currently working on her dissertation  - a case study of school replication and sustainability. She serves on several education boards including the IU Alumni Board and as IASP Marion County treasurer.
