Bachelor of Music Master of Education
Ms. Susan Sieler
I grew up in Idaho on a 100-acre farm. Our family hiked and camped all over Idaho, Oregon, Washington, Wyoming, Colorado, Nevada, and California. Music was very important to my mother. So, in the third grade I started to play electric organ and sing in the church choir. In the fourth grade, I began playing cello and then switched to double bass. At the beginning of my eighth-grade year, I switched from organ to piano and played double bass not only in my school orchestra, but the college orchestra as well.
I was a military wife for 16 years and have four wonderful children—who grew up as military brats and have traveled and lived in many wonderful places. As the children and I settled back into civilian life, I went back to school to attain my teacher's license, and then began teaching in the public school system in San Antonio, Texas, as an Orchestra Director. I have a Bachelors in Music, with emphasis in performance and composition, and a Masters in Education with an emphasis in special education.
I currently instruct DP Music and Orchestra. It is my goal to help each student work toward his or her potential and to help in producing an outstanding Music Department. This includes teaching kids how to listen to music, and how to evaluate what they are hearing. My end goal is to help shape young minds and help them to develop openness to the world of music history, music theory, and performance.
